Liz O'ConnorLiz's work focuses on helping organizations to solve problems and identify new opportunities to become more effective in achieving their mission.

Biography:
Liz founded SMI as a vehicle for providing support to the nonprofits, government agencies and multi-agency collaboratives working to find solutions to complex problems which impact communities and families.

Her work focuses on helping clients to increase program effectiveness, build productive partnerships and sustain/grow their successful initiatives.

In her former position as Deputy Director of the Office of Strategic Planning at the Boston Police Department, Liz worked with senior police management and district commanders to design, fund and implement new initiatives supporting innovative practices and community-based policing. Her program development efforts focused on leveraging external partnerships and resources to support community groups in crime prevention and reduction. Prior to joining the police department, Liz was director of a large community-based literacy (ABE and ESOL) program, and taught Philosophy at UMASS/Boston and in the SUNY system.

Liz holds a master's degree in Philosophy from the University of Washington and a bachelor's degree in Philosophy and Political Science from Mount Holyoke College.

Liz has worked in the nonprofit and government sectors since 1989, in positions ranging from volunteer to program director to senior manager.
